Brewing potions.
Brewing potions if a very nice way to earn points, although I must admit that it’s not the fastest. Considering the fact that dueling isn’t working as of yet (and you probably found all of the items already), you’re probably stuck in the dungeons, waiting for that Sleeping Draught to finish brewing. Moving on, I’ve decided to list down a few tips specifically for brewing - you know, for easier navigation. If you’d rather read the long tips in the other post, go ahead, no one’s stopping you, really.
Still here? Good. Here they are:
1. Take note that the hourglass timer (which can be located at the upper-left side of the potion brewing screen) starts the moment you close the potion book. Make sure that you have fully understood the instructions so as not to waste time. Well, if you want, you can just remember the first few steps, but knowing the whole thing’ll probably waste less time.
If you’re unfamiliar with the steps (or if you’re too lazy to click the potion book) you can choose to write down the steps on a piece of paper.
2. If you’re asked to add a certain ingredient in your cauldron or mortar, try not to do it all at once - you’re going to have to look at the counter first. It’s that yellow circle that pops out when you add an ingredient. Make sure that the number that’s there is the one that’s asked in the steps before you proceed. Even if you think you’ve put the correct amount, if it wasn’t counted in the counter then chances are you’ll end up failing your potion. Be careful!
3. When you’re asked to heat your cauldron, just remember that you can toggle through the three different buttons. They’re there for a reason, so it’s best to use them. To explain each, the blue button stops the heating process. The orange one slows down the heating, and the red one speeds it up. The goal here is to keep the temperature within the gold lines (Location will vary from potion to potion). The key? Use all three buttons.
I personally use the red button to reach the mark (which is basically the start of the lower gold line - I couldn’t find anther term) faster, and once I’m there, I click the orange button to make it heat slower. If the gold bars are close to each other, then you’re probably going to have to turn off the heat, so you’ll be pressing the blue button too. Just alternate between these two buttons while heating, and when it’s done, turn it off. You do not want your cauldron to continue heating, haha.
3. Crushing ingredients in the mortar is easy. Just repeatedly click on the mortar (the pestle or the bowl itself, it doesn’t matter) until it’s within the gold bars. Click faster if you want to crush the ingredients faster.
4. If the steps ask you to mix your cauldron either clockwise or counter-clockwise, just click the wooden spoon, and move your mouse in big circles, going to the direction that the steps asked you to do. There’s a counter here, too, so make sure the counter’s number is the same as the intended number of time that you have to mix it before proceeding.
5. Handling liquids, now this is a hard one. Most people have trouble with this, but to make it easier, just grab them by the top. That way you have more control of the amount of liquid that’s needed. When pouring, try putting it in the rim of the cauldron so that it’s easier to pour. Wait for the counter to count the desired amount before pouring again.
Well, that’s it for the guide, I guess. Just be careful with the measurements and watch the cauldron temperature! Once you get the hang of it, brewing will be as easy as finding a Chocolate Frog Card. Happy brewing!
Updates!
Hey, Puffs! Recently changed the layout so it’s more readable and hopefully more Pottermore related. This is just temporary while I try making a nice one to suit our own house, so this’ll have to do for now.
Aaand, a short guide for item locations and such has been posted. If you see anything missing (I’m still working on the later chapters) leave a message and I’ll add it ASAP. :D Feel free to ask to become a moderator if you’d like, they’re still open! Thanks!

Heys! would you mind making me a moderator?:) and can you please change the theme haha, cos the words are rather small now ><
-Anonymous
Sure, Anon, but i’ll have to make you one tomorrow because i have to sleep. :)) And yes, i’ve been meaning to change the theme, I just noticed how small it is. =)) I’ve been thinking of changing it into the Pottermore theme i found, but I don’t know. Any suggestions?
Lists & reasons!
Hi, Puffs! sorry for bombarding you with a lot of text posts, but we’re going to try to make this a really helpful Puff page. :D
Anyway, an Anon recently asked if we could post a list for the locations of items, and to answer that, we are! Just be a bit patient because it’s going to take a bit of organizing. Oh, and I don’t know whether to arrange it by chapter, or by kind (say, by potions or books, something like that, instead of arranging it by chapter)
Aaaand, I’m thinking of compiling a page that contains a lot of reasons why we should be proud to be a Hufflepuff. hopefully with that page we can raise our puff pride and hopefully convince those reluctant newly-sorted puffs. :D Any suggestions? Feel free to Ask Bob so we can add your reasons. :D
Thanks, Puffs!

Just dropping by to say Hi, Star Rook and Sky Mist. :) Already got three strikes from pottermore so I'm staying away for now. It seems the word moderation will get you notified frequently. Anyway, continue brewing Hufflepuffs. - RoseHallow194
-havenoferzamarie
Aww, thanks! :D And sure, haha. Don’t worry, just keep practicing, you’re bound to get better!

Is it possible to tell us the places where the objects and books are hidden? I'm still missing 3 objects and a book, and I have looked ev-ery-where!
-Anonymous
Yup! I’m actually thinking of putting up a list, anon. :D We’ll let the common room know once it’s up! I might have to borrow my friend’s unused account since i pretty much found everything, haha. :)) Thanks for the reminder!
Basic information!
Here’s a bit of information so that you’ll be able to learn a bit more about Hufflepuff House!
Founder: Helga Hufflepuff
Head Professor: Professor Pomona Sprout, teacher of Herbology
House Ghost: The Fat Friar
Animal: Badger
Colors: Black and yellow
Current Prefect: Gabriel Truman
Common Room: Located near the Hogwarts kitchens
Who’s Bob? If you’re one of the people who’s curious to know who Bob is, then fret no more. Bob is Hufflepuff’s cactus. He’s located in the lower-right corner of the background image. :)
Who’s Sally? Sally is another plant who’s also located in the Hufflepuff Common Room background. She’s on the upper-right corner of the background. She’s somewhere above the right circular-shaped dormitory.
Moderators.
hi there, Puffs. if you want to become a moderator, please let me know by clicking the Ask Bob link in the Tumblr page. :D Since this is pretty new we’re going to need a lot of helpers. Just make sure that you’re going to be a dedicated Puff!
Friendly tips from fellow Puffs!
1. Cauldrons differ in the amount of time needed to heat up. A copper cauldron, even if it will have a shorter brewing time, will make it harder to heat your cauldrons. Choose wisely!
2. The easiest and fastest potion to brew is the Cure for Boils, but it gives the least points. The Sleeping Draught is the longest potion to brew, but it yields the highest house points (11). The cheapest potion to brew is the Wideye or Awakening potion.
3. Brewing a Cure for Boils potion gives you 3 house points if brewed successfully.
4. Brewing an Antidote to Common Poisons gives you 7 house points if brewed successfully.
5. Brewing a Wideye or Awakening potion, Forgetfulness potion or an Herbicide gives you 9 house points if brewed successfully.
6. Comments undergo moderation if some words are misspelled, so make sure you double-check your comments before posting!
7. The hourglass timer starts once instruction book is closed, so make sure you know the instructions really well.
8. Some ingredients can be recollected from the chapters once you run out. save galleons, Puffs! Word’s out that we’re not getting any Galleons until the next book comes out.
9. Collectibles such as chocolate frog cards, books and potion ingredients earn you a house point for every item you find.
10. If your temperature goes to the red zone, it may cause your cauldron to blow up. To avoid this, alternate between the yellow and the blue cauldron buttons to make sure that the temperature stays between the gold lines. If you’re heating on “high temperatures”, click the red button to make it heat faster.
11. While waiting for your potion to brew, open a new tab so you can still browse around Pottermore or chat in the common room.
12. There are a total of 11 chocolate frog cards, 21 objects and 15 books to collect as of now. Take note, however, that some of these can be bought at Diagon Alley, but the rest can be found throughout the chapters.
13. Crush ingredients in your mortar until the bar turns green, don’t continue if it’s still red.
14. When handling bottles, hold them from the top and lean them on the cauldron so it’s easier to add the necessary amount and to avoid over-pouring.
15. Don’t click the Come Back Later button when you’re done with the first step. As of right now, clicking it will cause your potion to restart; however, Google Chrome users might not be experiencing this glitch.
16. Remember to click the Brew Another Potion button once you’re done. Not clicking it will result to no house points added for some people. Still, better safe than sorry.
17. If you add the wrong amount ingredients or if the temperature enters the red zone, hit the back button to avoid losing points.
18. It’s better to copy the steps on a piece of paper if you’re not too familiar with them yet to avoid wasting time. Trust us though, if you brew potions a lot of times you’ll know them by heart in no time!
19. If you’re adding potion ingredients to either your cauldron or mortar, make sure that the circular counter located on their left side has counted the necessary amount. If not, you’ll end up failing your potion.
